Byker Arts Festival is a brand new community arts festival funded by Arts Council England & supported by Brinkburn St Brewery, CIRC Motif & Northern Stage celebrating the creativity and diversity of local artists & communities from Byker, East End Newcastle, and the wider Newcastle area.

This festival brings together a variety of art forms such as music, theatre, tapestry, and visual arts in one place for the community of Byker & beyond to enjoy.

We are committed to providing paid and voluntary creative opportunities for artists to engage in their creative practice and with the community. Below are some current opportunities.

The Byker Tapestry Sewing Project // Participate

Do you like to sew, knit or work with any other textile based art form?

We need your help in creating our large-scale tapestry of Byker! You will be given a square of the map to complete either in your own time or at one of our workshops with Lexelina Designs!

Workshop Artists // ROLES

We are looking for artists to run pottery painting, songwriting, photography, music & graphic design workshops during the festival. If you would like to run a workshop or have an idea for one please email us below!

Circus // Comission

£1000 plus support for an artist to create a new piece of circus/theatre to be performed at the festival. No stress, it can be a work in progress or a small act!

Do you have work you'd like feedback on or want to try out in front of an audience? All art forms are welcome.

Date : Thursday 3rd August

Dance // Comission

£1000 plus support for an artist/s to create a new dance piece to be performed at the festival. Use of rehearsal space is included.

Community Photographer // ROLE

We are looking for a photographer that has worked in community arts previously to facilitate and lead a community photography project with residents of Byker. This project will collaborate with the Byker community Trust.

Community Photography // Participate

Contribute to the Byker Photography Exhibition and show your experience of Byker and beyond. You can join via the festival project or upload your personal images for exhibition. The work will be shown during the festival with some work to be chosen to visit Northern Stage. Register your interest below.
